Alex McIntyre has kicked off his campaign to become the next MP for Gloucester with an event in King’s Square

In a speech to local people and Labour activists, McIntyre set out their first steps for the local area, which includes:

  • A better future for our city with a good education for our kids.
  • A thriving Health Service
  • Affordable local housing
  • Safer streets
  • Secure jobs
  • A local economy that boosts wealth in the community.

Labour’s campaign to win Gloucester will centre on Labour’s plan to deliver a decade of national renewal following 14 years of decline under the Conservative Party.

In this area, full-time workers are £20 worse off per week since 2010, there are 29 fewer local PCSOs, and 66,937 people are on an NHS waiting list.

McIntyre said:

“I am proud to launch my campaign to be the next Labour MP for Gloucester. I know that our community deserves better than the past 14 years of Tory decline.

“Over the next few weeks, I will set out my plans to change Gloucester, including:

Tackling the cost of living to bring down your energy bills for good.

Cutting NHS waiting lists at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Cracking down on anti-social behaviour across the city with more neighbourhood police.

Ensuring every child has the best start in life with free primary school breakfast clubs and more specialist teachers in our schools.

“Together we can change Gloucester.”

Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party, said:

“This is a chance to change Gloucester with Labour.

“Over the course of the last four years, we have changed the Labour Party and returned it once more to the service of working people.

“All we ask now, humbly, is to do exactly the same for our country. And return Britain to the service of working people. A vote for Labour is a vote for economic and political stability, an end to Conservative chaos, and a long-term plan to rebuild Britain.”
